Infallible Weathervane

I sent this image to Ernesto a while back, hoping to get a rise out of him. This papal hat sits on a weathervane on a chapel at Yale where my daughter took a summer program. I thought it might prompt a thread of conversation.

After all, you don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.

Well, as you know, even a broken clock is infallibly correct twice a day. We've discussed the whole infallibility doctrine before and I'm more aware of what exactly it does and does not entail. It still seems like a tautology since the Pope defines what is correct doctrine and the Pope also determines the rightness of the doctrine and the Pope declares the doctrine of infallibility to be correct and right.

If the Pope was required, for instance, to predict under which shell the pea will be found, the concept of infallibility could be proven or disproved. Now, I predict that you will have something to say. So, attempt to prove me wrong and you will at the same time prove me right.
